Aaron Drake, USAF, Lt Col (Ret.)

Founder / Attorney

Aaron Drake joined the U.S. Air Force during law school, just after 09/11/01, becoming an ROTC Cadet as a second-year law student. After graduating in the top 5% of his law class in 2004, he served over six years on active duty. His assignments included a combat deployment to Iraq in 2008 with an Army Civil Affairs unit, followed by an assignment as an Assistant Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy, teaching sections of Law for Air Force Officers; Negotiations; and Spanish.

He left active duty to join the Utah National Guard in 2011, where he served as the full-time (dual-status technician) Chief Counsel to the 2-star Commander of the Joint Forces Headquarters–the Army and Air National Guard for Utah. In that position, he led the State’s two dozen+ uniformed attorneys and paralegals and advised the State’s most-senior military leaders on a broad range of legal topics. During that time, he concurrently served as Ethics Counselor and as Legislative Liaison to the State legislature and to Utah’s federal Congressional Delegation.

In 2017, he transitioned to part-time National Guard military service as the Chief Counsel to the 1-star Commander of the Utah Air National Guard. This part-time military status allowed him to pursue his full-time private law practice, which he has done ever since. In 2021, he retired from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel.

As an attorney officially accredited by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, he represents veterans in their disability appeals before the Board of Veterans’ Appeals. Aaron also represents military members in a wide variety of administrative actions, including military medical and disability evaluation advocacy (e.g. MEB, PEB, IDES, NDDES, etc), Line of Duty advocacy and appeals, BCMR petitions, discharge upgrade petitions, security clearance adjudications, and adverse action defenses and appeals.
